The overall research aim of this Unit is to explore reproductive processes in an evolutionary context. Combining field and laboratory based methodologies as part of an integrated approach, we are investigating mechanisms of sexual selection and the evolution of mating systems in macaques and other Old World primates.

Access to wild primate populations is facilitated through extensive collaboration and by our own two field stations in Indonesia. Given the strategic location of these sites within the Sundaland and Wallacea Hotspots of Biodiversity, as well as the conservation significance of the species found there, a substantial component of our field-based activities is pursued with conservation objectives in mind.
